NCDC gives reason for delay in COVID-19 test result

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has given a reason why there is a delay in issuing results after COVID-19 tests.

Speaking at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Ihekweazu said that the delay occurs when getting the "result from the lab to the individual".

He revealed that the NCDC is working on a portal which will enable people to check their status online.

He said: “The major factor driving the delay is not in the testing, it is in the process and from getting the result from the lab to the individual. We don’t want to bypass the states because the states are really the custodians of the public health response."
