Nigerians react as Reps drag DSTV over high tariff

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to air their frustration over DSTV charges and services in the country as the House of Representatives began a probe of DSTV.

MyNigeria.com reported that the House is specifically probing the Digital Satellite Television, a South Africa-based provider owned by MultiChoice, for allegedly cheating its Nigerian subscribers by restricting them to prepaid plans.

However, some Nigerians, on Twitter, have given the detail of their relationship with the cable service.

@Morris_Monye took to Twitter to say, "From this day, I have decided not to pay any DSTV subscription again till they start a pay-per-view option. I urge you to join me too... If your problem is football, there are various streaming apps you can watch from. Enough is enough!"

Another user, @DareOgunmowo, responded thus - "I stopped subscribing DSTV in December 2018 or so. I paid once in 2019 (August) cos of visitors. Since then I haven't till now. DSTV can do better."

One user seems to care less about the master, he said, "We fight over Dstv subscription rates every year as if cable tv is an essential service.
Our lawmakers will be better off pushing for policies that will attract other service providers. Competition is still the best approach to lower prices."

Another user, @Elcrucifixio, throws weight behind DSTV, he said, "Nigerians demanding DSTV pay-as-you-use billing, Yup, that was me some months ago, until @TheInfamous__ and Oddy schooled me on it. I took their opinions with a pinch, so did my own diggings, and found out Naij is actually amongst the cheapest cable users in the world.

"Maybe if we find out how much other countries pay for cable tv, we will relax (like my humble self) on this our demand for ‘pay-as-you-use’.

"Maybe if we find out how much DSTV spends themselves proving this network, we will be more business considerate for them."

His opinion, however, wasn't accepted by @EzraelAni who replied thus "Lol. Other countries have steady electricity so they make use good use of it. They should consider us they still have to spend money on fuel."
