PHOTOS: Abba Kyari's body laid to rest in Abuja

The former Chief of Staff to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.), Mallam Abba Kyari was buried at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.

Kyari was buried at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja, according to Personal Assistant to Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, who made the announcement via his Twitter handle.

Pictures from the burial showed many people in attendance as they bid farewell to the former Nigerian politician who was COVID-19 positive before his death at a Lagos hospital on Friday.

He said, "Mallam Abba Kyari has been buried at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and accept his soul him. Allah ya jikan shi. #RIPAbbaKyari"

Bashir had informed Nigerians earlier that he will be buried today, "Mallam Abba Kyari will be buried later today in Abuja according to Islamic rites."

The president's PA had earlier described late Kyari as a man of honour, as reported by MyNigeria.com.

"Abba Kyari certainly was one of the most misunderstood people in the history of Nigeria. Those who had the opportunity to know him personally will tell you how extremely a good person he was. A man of honour will be remembered as someone who sacrificed his life for this country."
