US to evacuate its citizens from Nigeria over coronavirus pandemic

American citizens who wish to return home have been given the green light by the United States Mission in Nigeria who said that they will begin evacuation.

America has recorded the highest cases of the deadly virus with 158,290 cases out of the over 700,000 recorded in the world.

The US has also been recorded almost 3,000 deaths out of the 37,001 deaths recorded worldwide, according to Worldometer, as of 8:45 pm on Monday.

The US Embassy made the announcement on Twitter by informing interested US nationals who have reportedly indicated readiness to leave Nigeria to prepare for evacuation.

“The U.S. Consulate in Lagos has confirmed multiple emergency flights for this week departing from Lagos and Abuja. Please do not come to the airport until we have contacted you directly. Please shelter in place and await further information”, it read.

As of March 30, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control - NCDC has confirmed a total of 111 coronavirus cases and two deaths.
