Employers risk jail term if workers spend more than six months as casual staff- House of Reps.

House of Reps. House of Reps.

A Bill to amend the Labour Act, Cap. L1, LFN, 2004 to prohibit and criminalize the casualization of workers after six months of engagement by Nigerian employers has passed second reading.

The bill which was discussed in the House of Representatives plenary session today also prohibits outsourcing employment in core areas of operation.

Many Nigerians applauded the bill like Emeka Ibeji who saw it as an end to the ways foreign investors treat Nigerians as animals.

"I think this bill should be adopted straight without any debate/reading. Many foreign investors in Nigeria treat Nigerians like animals. I hope @nassnigeria also looks into the kind of transportation given to these casual staff. They're carried like cows in trucks," he commented.
