Online dating can't work in Nigeria because of poverty - Joey Akan

Journalist Joey Akan has stated that the reason why online dating platforms don't work in Nigeria is because of poverty.

According to him, online dating platforms start off well until they are taken over by commercial sex workers.

He further stated that the reason why such is the fate of the platforms in Nigeria is because the country demands too much from the people.

Joey Akan tweeted: "Poverty has refused to allow online dating platforms work in Nigeria. They all start out well, and are usable for 2 hours before sex workers make it their new outlet for business. Remember when I first discovered Tinder, made great connections. A month later, "40k a session."

He added: "And you won't blame them. The country makes demands of you, and you have to meet supply. Sex workers are trying to eat. And if you are bringing horny people to a platform, why aren't they invited to the mix? Admittedly, this makes it hard to scale. But it's the reality of it".
