As Nigeria remembers her fallen heroes in the Armed Forces, Twitter has been divided by the remarks of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The Federal Government of Nigeria celebrates Armed Forces Day, also known as Remembrance Day on 15 January in commemoration of the surrender of Biafran troops to the Federal troops on 15 January 1970, thus concluding the Nigerian Civil War that sought to tear apart the unity of Nigeria

The day is also set aside to celebrate our fallen heroes.

Atiku took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to mark the #ArmedForcesRemembranceDay by saying that his thoughts and prayers were with the families and friends of the fallen heroes.

He wrote: “As always, I remember our fallen heroes who gave their lives for our nation. I remain grateful and indebted for their service and sacrifice.

Twitter users appeared to have mixed feelings towards the former presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, with positive and negative responses directed towards him.
