A 7-day old baby has escaped death after drowning in flood water in Port Harcourt.
The baby was rescued alive after slipping from his mother’s arms and droppig into a flowing flood water, along Okilton Drive, Rumuokwuta in Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers State.
DAILY POST gathered that the incident happened when the mother was leaving the hospital after circumcising the child.
The young mother was said to have missed her step and fell into a drain that made the child slip off her arms.
Some eyewitnesses told newsmen that the mother and child were rescued by passersby who took them back to the hospital.
One of the residents of the area, Akanin said, “The woman was struggling with the flood water which was at the knee level when the thing happened. The child was found minutes later and rushed back to the hospital.
“Many residents came out to help them. In fact, we didn’t see the child immediately. We found the child much later without any injuries but the mother had bruises. We took them back to the hospital where they were later discharged. The hospital people said they are okay.”
