Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state on Monday, March 29, 2021, stopped his convoy to assist some women and girls who were fetching firewood by the roadside in the Monguno area of the northeastern state.

Firewood is the major energy source for cooking and heating among rural households in the insurgency-ravaged area, Daily Trust noted.

In some of the viral photos, the Borno state governor was seen surrounded by his security aides who helped some of the women.

The governor's action has earned him admiration by some Nigerians as photos of the incident continue to trend on social media. Nevertheless, some people also criticised the governor, suggesting that his action may be politically-motivated.

Legit.ng curates some of the reactions to the governor's action on social media. Enoma Eguakhide said on Facebook:

"It seems this man came from the wrong side of a nation. How could he have got human heart in the mist of inhuman generation.

"It shows that humans can be Godly if they fear God and live humanity. I wish you God's protection. Keep doing your good works."
