The Zamfara State Zakat and Endowment Board has facilitated the marriage of 200 female orphans, providing each bride with starter household items, including furniture, bedding, and other essentials alongside a ₦200,000 dowry to support their transition into married life with dignity.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Habib Balarabe Mohammed Zawiyya, disclosed this during a mass wedding ceremony and distribution of empowerment packages held in Gusau, the state capital. The event marked the final phase of the Board’s 2025 programmes, which also included disbursement of business grants, debt settlements, poultry training graduation, and completion of computer literacy classes.
Zawiyya noted that the Board will continue to follow up with the couples to ensure they sustain peaceful and responsible homes. He expressed joy that some beneficiaries from the previous year’s mass wedding returned with newborns, describing the development as highly encouraging.
The First Lady commended the Board’s leadership Chairman Sheikh Ahmad Ibn Umar Kanoma and Executive Secretary Dr. Habib Balarabe Muhammad for their transparency and dedication, which she said are evident in the successes recorded.
She congratulated the newlywed couples and prayed for peaceful, loving homes. At the ceremony, Zakat Board Chairman Sheikh Umar Kanoma stood in as guardian for the grooms, while the Emir of Anka served as guardian for the brides. Imam Isa Sherehu officiated the marriage rites and offered prayers for the couples.
Malam Yakubu Gusau revealed that all couples underwent comprehensive medical screenings, with 24 individuals identified with health issues placed on immediate treatment. The event drew traditional leaders, Islamic scholars, families, and well-wishers from across the state.
