Yuletide: Kaduna senator distributes rice to constituents

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, has distributed bags of rice to families across Southern Kaduna to support constituents in celebrating the Christmas season amid prevailing economic challenges.

The distribution exercise, which took place across the district, covered all eight local government areas and was extended to beneficiaries cutting across political, religious and social divides, according to organisers.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, on Wednesday.

Those who benefited from the gesture included religious bodies, market women, vulnerable persons, community-based organisations, community forums and party supporters from different political affiliations within the senatorial district.

Speaking during the distribution, a former Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Yohanna Allahmagani, said the initiative reflected Senator Katung’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents.

Allahmagani urged residents of Southern Kaduna to continue to support and pray for the senator, particularly during the festive season, noting that leadership thrives when there is mutual understanding between leaders and the people.

“This gesture is part of Senator Katung’s desire to ensure that families are able to celebrate Christmas with joy despite the economic realities facing many households,” Allahmagani said.

He added that the distribution of food items was consistent with the senator’s people-centred approach to representation and his emphasis on providing practical support to constituents at critical periods.

According to him, Senator Katung has continued to demonstrate concern for the well-being of the people beyond legislative duties, especially during festive seasons and times of need.

Allahmagani further assured constituents that the senator would sustain efforts at attracting what he described as democratic dividends to the district through effective representation at the National Assembly.

“We can assure the people that Senator Katung remains focused on delivering impactful representation and ensuring that Southern Kaduna gets its fair share of development,” he said.

Some beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and helpful in easing the burden of the Christmas celebration.

A community leader, James Bawa, from one of the local government(Zango-Kataf) areas, said the distribution had strengthened the bond between the senator and his constituents, regardless of political or religious differences.

The organisers said the rice distribution was deliberately designed to cut across party lines in order to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among communities in Southern Kaduna.

Senator Katung, in a goodwill message conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, on Wednesday, extended his Christmas greetings to residents of the district, urging them to embrace peace, love and unity during the season.

“I wish everyone a very merry and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year,” the senator said, while reaffirming his commitment to serving the people of Kaduna South. ENDS.
