Reno Omokri, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, should have resigned from contesting the 2023 elections, just as US President Joe Biden did.
According to Reno, Obi's decision to remain in the race cost the largest opposition party the election, which was ultimately won by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
US President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race after facing pressure from the Democratic Party. In a statement announcing his withdrawal, he said, "While it was my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."
Biden's withdrawal sent shockwaves across the globe, especially impacting the Republican Party, which believed President Biden would have been an easier opponent to defeat in the elections.
In a post on his Facebook page, Omokri criticized Obi for betraying those who supported him and for running against Waziri Atiku Abubakar.
"Peter Obi's only function in 2023 was as an ungrateful character, blinded by ambition, who chose to bite the hand that fed him, which led him to contest against Waziri Atiku Abubakar and, by so doing divided the opposition vote. If Obi had not contested the #NigerianElections2023, Atiku would have won," he said.
Expressing his disappointment in Obi, Omokri also apologized to Atiku Abubakar for his part in advocating for Obi to be Atiku's running mate in 2019.
"Sadly, I feel so personally responsible due to my role in making that ingrate Waziri Atiku's running mate in 2019. May God forgive me. I sincerely and penitently apologise to Waziri Atiku Abubakar. I thought I knew the man.
Peter Obi witnessed the APC's victory over a united opposition. Despite this, he still chose to divide the opposition in 2023. If we couldn't defeat them united, how could we have done so divided?"
Omokri has recently intensified his criticism of the Labour Party candidate and his supporters following the fallout of the 2023 presidential election.
The social media personality has vowed to continue criticizing Obi as a form of payback for the distress he experienced when the presidential candidate's supporters threatened the life of his one-year-old child.
