Segun Showunmi has denied being hired by Reno Omokri to serve as a spokesperson for former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

This was after Omokri, during an episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, claimed that he had interviewed and hired Showunmi for the role.

“Atiku wanted me to be his spokesperson. I said no, I'm not going to be a spokesperson for a president and then be a spokesperson for a presidential candidate. But, I hired his media team, i hired Segun Showunmi; I interviewed him and set his salary,” Omokri said.

In response, Showunmi stated that those who will believe Omokri's position are those not familiar with his antics.

He wrote on X, "It will be a waste of saliva responding to this rubbish. Amina Jambo, my friend, got Lulu Obaifo to convince me to visit Waziri, and when I did, I asked the questions, then visited Uyi Giwa Osagie. Then got a call from Ogd while they were in Dubai then got to Abuja, then agreed with Atiku, then met with Dane Waters of trippi, then met Eta Uso, then met Yemi Hilda.

"The younger man is delusional. I first set eyes on him at a defence of London advertising in Dubai! Believe Reno if you like nonstop talking of rubbish. Ask him what the terms were and what was the role of the then COS of Atiku the Maiduguri man. Hire ko, Hire ni. That was how he kept screaming rubbish about drugs and the president and what he was later to pretend to forget now that he talks rubbish. Na who no know reno dey listen to his trash!"

In a rebuttal, Omokri urged the media to contact those who witness him interview Showunmi for the role of Atiku's spokesperson.

He wrote on Facebook, "If I am nothing at all, I am a meticulous record keeper. In May 2018, Olisa Metuh, the former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, recommended Segun Showunmi for the role of spokesman to Waziri Atiku Abubakar. Mr. Metuh asked Segun Showunmi to send his resume (what we call a CV) to me. Thereafter, Olisa Metuh asked Segun Showunmi to contact me for a job interview.

"I spoke to Segun Showunmi from California and negotiated his salary with him. I thereafter informed Waziri Atiku Abubakar, and Segun Showunmi was announced as his spokesman on the terms I negotiated with him.

"If there is any controversy or if anybody is using foul language to deny the obvious truth, then I urge the media to contact Mr. Olisa Metuh, who is an eyewitness and who was the one who recommended Segun Showunmi to me for employment as Waziri Atiku's spokesman.

"After he was employed, Mr. Segun Showunmi returned to Mr. Olisa Metuh to thank him for recommending him to me.

"I do not want to be forced to publish documentary evidence. I would rather not. But if I have to, then I can.

"I urge anyone wanting to deny the obvious to think twice. Again, I repeat that if I am nothing at all, at least I am a meticulous record keeper."
