Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to jailed Nnamdi Kanu, has said the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by his client, was first proscribed as a terrorist group by governors of the Southeast region of Nigeria.

IPOB is seeking to break the Southeast region from Nigeria, in what will become the resurrection of the defunct Biafra Republic defeated by Nigeria in the 60s.

However, governors in the region opposed the move and proceeded to proscribe the group. Their action was seconded by the Federal Government, under the administration of late Muhammadu Buhari.

Ejimakor, in a terse statement, urged the governors of the Southeast to rescind their decision to deproscribe IPOB.

He said, "Let the record show that #IPOB was first proscribed by SE Governors in office as of September 2017, thus encouraging the Federal Government to do the same. Justice demands that the current SE Governors Forum should take urgent steps to de-proscribe IPOB. Charity begins at home."
