Ojay Wright, son of actress Bukky Wright, has opened up about his experience relocating to Nigeria and dating Nigerian women.
Speaking during a recent interview with Pulse, Ojay said the frequency with which people ask for money has been his biggest culture shock since moving to the country.
“Everybody just asks for money. Everybody is always asking for money. That’s the only thing I see. I think that would be the biggest shock for me,” he said.
According to him, the experience is different from what he was used to, as “over there it’s like people just do what they do,” but in Nigeria, he claimed, “you cannot even say hi, hello without getting billed.”
Ojay also recalled expecting to build friendships without immediate financial expectations, saying, “I’m waiting to meet somebody that in the first two months first you’re not billing me. So yeah.”
However, he acknowledged that spending money while dating is part of the relationship, clarifying that he was not saying he did not want to spend.
“I’m not saying I don’t want to spend, but, like, the culture shock is too much here,” he said.
He concluded by stressing his frustration with what he perceives as the constant focus on money, adding, “Money, money, money. That’s the only thing everybody talks about. So for me that would be my biggest culture shock.”
