With viral photos on social media claiming that the son of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Osekola Obi, is dating a gay man, many supporters of his political opponents have attempted to utilise the allegation against him.
Rumours started when photos showed Osekola with a man during a stage performance in the West, with many making suggestions about his sexuality.
The rumours intensified when one Kent Okwesa shared a photo of himself with Osekola to celebrate his birthday on Wednesday, accompanied by a caption referring to Obi's son as "Angel".
The now-deleted post on X read, "I've come so far, worked so hard, so this entire week I'm celebrating my birthday. I'm proud of you angel."
Comments started pouring in from Nigerians who made jest of the situation and saw it as an opportunity to ridicule Obi.
An X user, @mariolexxx, said, "Peter Obi spent more than 20 years in raising Osekola and still failed, but wants to solve Nigeria's problems in 4 years... No be juju be that."
@Tolusey said, "Congratulations to Osekola Obi (Peter Obi’s son on the birthday of his wife/partner."
@Iyoaiye_ said, "Peter, you have a very big family problem you should attend to. Peter, you left it unattended; instead, you are seen running and dancing naked in the name of desperation to attend to the problems of Nigeria that are beyond your comprehension and abilities.
"The one in your family that can be managed was left until it becomes rotten, whereas you are deceiving the fools calling you "My President" that you have solutions to the challenges confronting Nigeria..
"For how long will you continue to pretend? For how long will you continue to fool the fools who call you a leader? If your son doesn't listen to you, how will Nigerians or any serious-minded fellow listen to you? Is it you who can't manage your family problems that will manage Nigeria's problems? Again, don't be fooled, deceived and scammed by Peter. He has got nothing to offer."
@DayoOlogun said, "This fraud @PeterObi, who loves to rig elections by paying people raw cash, will never be president because his adofuro son will never be accepted in the North. This is beside the face that he is so incompetent. A useless father and a disgrace of politician."
Meanwhile, MyNigeria has come across a recent interview in which Obi stated that his life cannot be qualified based on the choices of his wife and children..
The interview with The Honest Bunch Podcast may prove that he cannot be tied down by whatever his family members do.
He said, "As long as I'm alive, she's my wife. As long as I'm alive, I won't marry... I won't have anything... she is my wife. That is sealed, finished.
"Whatever she likes, let her do. Because what is she going to do that will offend? May be have an affair? It's her business. It's not me. They won't say two of us had an affair. They will say Peter Obi is a good man who married a woman who is... That's it.
"You can't quantify me with the life of my wife or my children. We have different lifestyles."
