A Nigerian man identified as Malam Kiri Umaru who returned over N1.7 million he found at different times to their rightful owners said he did so out of contentment.

The 60-year-old man, who is a Damaturu-based commercial driver, is married to two wives and has 12 children who all depend on what he gets from his job.

Umaru has been conveying passengers and goods between towns and villages in cars he drove for others for about 40 years, Daily Trust reports.

Umaru has been presented with an award of ‘Ambassador of Honesty and Contentment’ by the Network for Yobe Civil Society Organisations (NYCSO).

The honest driver was also supported with a sum of N250,000 and food items by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state.

According to the governor, the token was aimed at encouraging people from all walks of life to imbibe honesty in whatever they do.

The driver said he would not find peace of mind if he didn't return those monies to their owners, adding that he might get involved in an accident and die.
