A recent disclosure by Governor Yahaya Bello indicates that it is possible for a politician from northern Nigeria to become the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Buhari’s tenure.

According to This Day, the Kogi state governor told journalists in Abuja on Sunday, March 7, that there is no arrangement mandating the APC to zone its presidential ticket to the south after the current administration.

He suggested that there is nothing restricting APC members from contesting for the presidency on the platform of the party irrespective of the zone they come from.

Bello stated: "There is nothing like zoning in our party. In 2015, there was no zoning; many aspirants, including former governor Rochas Okorocha contested. In 2019, there was no zoning; people in APC were not courageous enough to contest with President Muhammadu Buhari.''

The governor’s stance was contrary to claims by some high-ranking members of the APC who said there is a zoning arrangement with regards to the presidential ticket between the north and south.

The Sun reported that Bello expressed the confidence that he would emerge victorious if he decided to contest for the presidential ticket of the party.
