World Cup 2026: Egypt becomes fourth African country to win match

Egypt on Monday morning became the fourth African country to win a match at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The North Africans came from a goal down to beat New Zealand 3-1 in their second Group G fixture at the World Cup.

Goals from Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah and Trezeguet gave the Pharaohs all three points against New Zealand at BC Place, Vancouver.

Before the New Zealand game, Egypt played a 1-1 draw with Belgium in their World Cup opener a few days ago.

The other African countries to record a win at the ongoing World Cup so far are the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Morocco.

Ivory Coast was the first African country to win a World Cup after beating Ecuador 1-0 in their first game last week.

Ghana became the second nation in Africa to win a match at the World Cup after beating Panama 1-0 in their first game.

Morocco became the third team in Africa to win a match after beating Scotland 1-0 in their second Group C match.

Meanwhile, the likes of Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Algeria, South Africa and Tunisia are yet to win a match.
