British author and social commentator Chidera Eggerue has sparked heated discussions on social media after sharing her views on marriage and relationships during a recent interview.
Eggerue claimed that the institution of marriage was created in a way that mostly favors men. She explained that many men, including those facing financial difficulties, still expect women to take on domestic responsibilities and provide support in relationships.
The influencer also spoke about dating and financial standards, revealing that she would walk away from a relationship if her partner became financially unstable. According to her, women should not feel pressured to reduce their expectations or shrink themselves just to make men feel secure or comfortable.
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing with her perspective while others strongly disagreed.
Her words …
“Marriage as a system was designed to benefit men and the reason why I say that is that marriage allows for even the poorest of men to still have a maid.
And that man I’m with, let’s say he loses his money – cause that’s the thing women hear a lot that ‘you want a rich man what if he loses his money’. Guess what, if he loses his money he loses me too.
I’m here to represent women who are not going to bring themselves down to try to make men feel better…”
