Woman, 32, docked over alleged theft of N1.4m

A 32-year-old woman, Olajumoke Ogunkoya, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged stealing N1.4 million.

Ogunkoya, whose address was not given, is currently charged with stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence between December 2019 and February 2020 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that Ogunkoya stole the money while she served as the manager of an Ado-Ekiti-based Micro Finance Bank, Grace and Mercy House Hold Improvement Initiative.

The prosecutor said that the accused refused to remit the said money into the bank account, saying that such act contravened section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble witnesses in support of the charge against Ogunkoya.

Meanwhile, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ogunkoya’s counsel, Mr Chris Omokhafe, urged the court to grant her client bail and promised that she would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case to April 22 for hearing.
