Social media has been left awash with reactions after U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that Christians are being subjected to mass killings in Nigeria.

This comes after a video was uploaded by the White House on X on Wednesday, November 5, in which Trump claimed that “thousands and thousands” of Christians were being killed, blaming “radical Islamists” for what he described as a “mass slaughter.”

He said, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands and thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

In the clip, Trump announced that he was classifying Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” adding that the designation was based on a legal standard.

“I am hereby making Nigeria a country of particular concern. That’s a legal definition.
When Christians or any such group are slaughtered, as is happening in Nigeria — 3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide — it demands attention,” he said.

Calling for urgent action, Trump described the statistics as horrific and demanded an immediate congressional response.

The video has since generated thousands of comments and reshares.
