Wike, why are you acting like God? – Fayose fires after threats to impeach Fubara

Political and social commentator Isaac Fayose has criticized FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over remarks he made about Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara during a media parley on Wednesday, March 12.

In the interview, Wike addressed various issues, including the political crisis in Rivers State. He stated that the heavens would not fall if the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly impeached Governor Fubara.

The former Rivers State governor defended the lawmakers, arguing that they had legitimate grounds to remove Fubara, including allegations of withholding their salaries for months.

However, reacting to Wike’s comments, Fayose—a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—declared that the people of Rivers State would resist any attempt by Wike to impose his will on the government.

He criticized Wike’s political influence in the state, stating that godfatherism was no longer relevant in modern Nigerian politics.

"Wike, why are you acting like God? God stays in heaven, and Nigerians live here—we are not afraid of you. You speak with so much confidence, trying to instill fear in people, but you are just a human being like the rest of us. Power belongs to the Almighty God."

Fayose further referenced past political figures, insisting that Rivers State could not be controlled by one person indefinitely.

"Adedibu is dead. Those were the godfathers of the past. The only godfather still standing is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has held Lagos for years. But no one can control Port Harcourt for over 20 years."

Reaffirming his support for Governor Fubara, Fayose dismissed any attempts to remove him before the 2027 elections, stating that power comes from God, not political scheming.

"Fubara is not going anywhere. 2027 is in God’s hands, not in the hands of any man. People can plan, scheme, and manipulate, but ultimately, everything comes from Jehovah, the Almighty. We are watching, Nigerians are watching, and Rivers people are watching. We do not need godfatherism anymore."

He also called on Wike to shift focus to governance rather than political power struggles, emphasizing the urgent needs of Rivers State.

"Rivers people need hospitals, schools, and infrastructure. You cannot suppress progress. You cannot make the people redundant. We will stand our ground. Rivers must move forward. The state belongs to God—let it go."
