Wike makes new pledge, vows to leave office with zero uncompleted projects

Governor Wike has reiterated his electoral mandate to the people of Rivers state.

Wike said on Tuesday, August 17, that all projects embarked upon by his government would be completed before his exit.

The governor, however, noted that the state is yet to receive N78billion refund from the federal government.

Governor Nyesom Wike has made a fresh pledge to the people of Rivers state, saying that he would leave no stone unturned to ensure all ongoing projects across the state are completed before he leaves office.

Vanguard reports that the governor said on Tuesday, August 17, that no project conceived by his administration would be abandoned or uncompleted at his exit as the state governor.

Legit.ng gathered that while speaking in Port Harcourt, Wike also said that the federal government was yet to release the N78billion refund President Muhammadu Buhari recently approved for Rivers.

He said: “When I won the election in 2015, I knew I was in opposition, I knew the FG will not execute projects in this state. I cannot also use that as an excuse for non-performance. So, I designed a policy of what to do for Rivers and implement it.

“When I came in, I inherited several uncompleted projects, some ongoing, others are abandoned. Some of these projects I have completed. But let me say this, all projects initiated by me will be completed when I leave.

“Mark my word, no project we have awarded or initiated will be abandoned or uncompleted when I leave. I will see to that. All projects will be completed and we are working seriously in that direction.”

Speaking on the N78billion refund, he said, “Forget about what people are saying on the pages of newspapers. When this money was approved, we expressed our gratitude to the president. But hear me, we are yet to receive that money.

“So, when people say we are awarding contracts or doing projects because we received N78billion, I laugh. We have a duty to develop Rivers and when you are committed and prudent with resources, you can achieve what you want for the people.”

He said his administration has built houses for judges on the owner-occupier basis, adding that those who do not want to live in those houses have asked for monetisation and that when they retire, they can have decent accommodation.

“What we have done is monumental and cannot be found in any state. It is also not limited to the judiciary. It was done for the legislature, and we also provided logistics and vehicles for the Army when the 6 division was created.

“Our support extends to the security agencies, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, Nigerian Bar Association and Students Union. ’It is our policy to enhance the capacity of the judiciary and legislature as a commitment towards actualising their independence," he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Wike asked the Rivers leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to give the All Progressives Congress (APC) a breathing space in the state.

It was reported that Wike insisted that the APC had nothing to offer the people of Rivers state. He called on members of the committee to show more love to PDP by being loyal and committed.
