Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has described the relationship he has with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Speaking in a no-holds-barred interview on Channels TV, Wike said that he has a good relationship with Obi because both them worked in the same political party, the Peoples Democratic Party before the latter moved to the Labour Party.

Wike said: "Peter Obi and I were in the same party together, I supported him when he ran as the presidential candidate against Atiku Abubakar and I even supported him when he brought a candidate for the PDP and Anambra."

"I have known Peter Obi for quite a long time so I can say we have a close working relationship as members of the party."

His recent comment comes after he denied allegations that he worked against the Labour Party candidate in the February 25 presidential election.

61-year-Obi, who, in less than a year, galvanised young voters in a manner some have described as unprecedented finished the race with 6,101,533. He trailed behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 6,984,520 votes.

Following Obi’s loss to Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Wike has been accused of working against the former Anambra State Governor.

Speaking during a media chat with selected journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike said he only advised the people of Rivers State to vote for the unity of Nigeria.
