Wife charged for defamation after lying that husband defiled two daughters

A wife identified as Chisom Okonkwo (29) has been dragged to court for defaming her husband after she accused him of defiling their two daughters in Enugu last month.

However, after a medical test was carried out on the minors, her claim was found to be false and motivated by a quarrel she had with her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo.

The woman was immediately charged in the Magistrate Court in Enugu with criminal defamation and deceiving the state.

The charge sheet reads: "That you Chisom Okonkwo 'f' sometime in the month of August, 2024 along Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene Enugu within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did defame the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma 'm' by shouting in the public that he defile your two daughters, which has expose him to hatred, contempt, ridicule and has damaged his reputation and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 323 and punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.

"COUNT II: That you Chisom Okonkwo 'f' on the 27th day of October, 2025 at State Intelligent Department (SID), Enugu within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did give false information to the Police Detectives that one Okonkwo Ozioma 'm' defile your two daughters, which made the Police officers to arrest and detained him, the information you knew to be false and an action he wouldn't have taken if the true facts were made known to them and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Law of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004."
