A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential elections.
Omokri, who is a major critic of Peter Obi, has questioned the former governor of Anambra State for what he called his "sudden love for football" following Nigeria's triumph at the 2024 Women's Cup of Nations.
According to Omokri, Peter Obi could have ruined the Super Falcons' 10th WAFCON title campaign if he had attended the final against the hosts, Morocco.
The staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu made reference to the Super Eagles' last World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, which ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
Omokri blamed Peter Obi, who was in the stands to support Eric Chelle's side, for the draw which put Nigeria's World Cup hopes in doubt.
In a post on X, the diaspora-based social media personality wrote:
"Thank God Peter Obi did not attend the WAFCON final. That is how he would have distracted the Super Falcons, like he did to the Super Eagles during the World Cup qualifying match at Uyo, where they suffered an embarrassing 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe on home ground.
"A man who could not build a world-class stadium capable of hosting a FIFA match in Anambra for eight years wanting to go to a stadium built by Godswill Akpabio when he was a governor. If he really loved sports, why did he not show it when he was governor? Why the SUDDEN love for football?"
The Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback after going down 2-0 to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 to clinch their historic 10th WAFCON title.
Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Msoudy scored Morocco's two goals in the first half before Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini scored three goals in the second half to turn the game on its head.
