Daniel Bwala, a legal practitioner and a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has quizzed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede why he offered special privileges to embattled Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello and not offer same to Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, predominantly known as Bobrisky who was recently jailed.

Olukoyede in a media engagement with select Editors at the headquarters of the agency in Abuja on Tuesday, April 23 disclosed that he placed a call to the Kogi governor to invite him for questioning when accusations were brought before him.

According to him, Bello had initially given the excuse that one of his political opponents had sent pressmen to the commission’s head office so as to embarrass him when he arrived there.

He noted that when he gave Bello the option to use an entrance that was exclusively meant for him as chairman, the narrative changed.

Bwala, who spoke to Arise TV in an interview monitored by MyNigeria called out the antigraft czar, indicating the move by the agency feeds into Bello's narrative that he will be persecuted by the agency and will not get a fair hearing.

"Some of the things he said yesterday have created more doubts and fed into the allegation of Yahaya Bello that he will not seek justice because it was a persecution," Bwala said.

He continued: "Let me tell you one of two things Mr Abati. In the press yesterday, he said he accorded a special privilege and respect to Yahaya Bello. That same privilege was not given to Bobrisky, that same privilege was not given to others."

"The procedure in EFCC is, except if they change it, they will write to you so they will be that evidence that you were invited because it falls in the fulcrum on the commencement of a trial that the accused must have been invited for an investigation," he concluded.
