The spokesman for the late former president Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo, hated his principal.
Shehu said the late Buhari held Obasanjo in high esteem but fell out over an unmet demand.
As reported by The Leadership, Shehu stated this while reacting to Obasanjo’s latest verdict on Buhari administration (2015-2023), describing the tenure as the worsts civil administration in Nigeria.
According to Shehu, Obasanjo allegedly made some demands of Buhari while the latter was president.
The former presidential aide said he explained why Obasanjo never liked the Buhari in his recent book, ‘According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience’.
‘There are many around Buhari who hold that the spectacular falling out between him (Buhari) and his superior in the military whom he cherished and much respected, President Olusegun Obasanjo, was on account of the demand, reportedly put to him by Obasanjo, that the contract for the Mambilla Power Project be given to a contractor he preferred.
‘‘On this, Buhari politely told the former president to allow him to handle it his own way, following the due process that was in place.”
In one of two publications he launched in March 2025 to mark his 88th birthday, Obasanjo said as a civilian president, Buhari did little or nothing.
Obasanjo described the administration of President Bola Tinubu as one competing with that of Buhari in inefficiency.
