Influencer Ola of Lagos has explained why he prefers renting an apartment rather than living in one of the houses he owns, saying he believes paying rent keeps him motivated to work harder.

Speaking on a podcast kk show,Ola said he deliberately chooses to rent because living in his own house could make him too comfortable and reduce his motivation to hustle.

“That is why I don’t sleep in any of my house, I will relax. Rent, pay rent, so that when the year ends, you know you want to pay 50 million. Pay. So that you go know say you have to work,” he said.

He, however, stressed that his approach is based on his personal circumstances and should not be taken as a rule for everyone.

“It’s fine to stay in your house you bought, but this is my own opinion, so don’t let that judge your life,” he said.

Ola also cautioned people against blindly following financial advice on social media, noting that decisions about buying a house or car should depend on an individual’s reality.

“It’s just like coming on the internet saying, ‘Oh, if you make your first money, don’t buy house, buy car. Oh, don’t buy car, buy house.’ No. It depends on your reality,” he said.

According to him, buying a car can also be a pathway to building wealth, as it may help someone generate the money needed to acquire property.

“Some people now, na the car wey they go buy, go buy them houses. My mentor online, he said his first car bought him all his houses. Yeah. So look at your current situation,” Ola said.
