Former presidential aspirant Adamu Garba has stated that his ideals prevented him from leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This was after an X user, @Femiotunba1, mocked the performance of the ADC in Saturday's by-election, after Garba had shared kind words about the party and what Nigerians should expect from it.
@Femiotunba1 said, "This by-election has proved you wrong on many fronts, and you are frustrated that the coalition that you praised to a high level was nowhere to be found in this election, especially in the North."
In response, Garba stated that only an "amateur politician would think that by-elections have any bearing upon general conventional elections."
He further stated, "In any case, I hate middle grounds. If I had wanted to be in the ADC, I would have moved there immediately.
"My remaining within the APC was a product of choice. Ideals of patience, constancy and understanding, we are extending to the party and the government we spent so much and worked hard for to enthrone.
"For those of you thinking appointment was the reason for some of my displeasures, I have never sought for any government appointment from anyone. Check the records. And have never held any government office.
"I have always held my freedom of expression more valuable than slavish following you valued.
"I even contested against late President Buhari, a fellow Fulani, the person I cherished so much, and always criticised him whenever necessary; I always expressed my thoughts. Check the records.
"You can’t expect me to see the wrong things and keep silent. My kind are not bred that way. We are raised to respect, honour, and value but not to slave to anyone.
"Therefore, you and your kind that always like to come under my comment section to think you can blackmail me into your delusions, know that you do not provoke us, because if you do, you cannot win this temporary Uber drive you found yourself in.
"I promise you this. If you continue to provoke us, you cannot win.
"Let’s respect each other while you ride your time."
