Why Alex Ekubo shouldn’t have kept his marriage private – Yul Edochie

Actor Yul Edochie has criticised late Alex Ekubo for keeping his marriage out of the public eye, arguing that public figures should not hide their personal lives for fear of public opinion.

Edochie made the comments while responding to online debates sparked by bloggers circulating photos and videos of Ekubo’s wife after his death.

The posts drew criticism from some social media users who accused the blogs of invading the family’s privacy.

According to Edochie, hiding personal matters is unnecessary because public commentary is inevitable.

He stated that people will always talk regardless of one’s actions and advised against making oneself small to avoid criticism.

He urged individuals to live freely and disregard online chatter.

Edochie: “He shouldn’t have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn’t necessary. People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life people must talk.

“So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog. To be great in life you must never make yourself small for any one or any reason. Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life.”

His remarks responded to a post by Skitmaker Nasboi, who condemned blogs for sharing images of Ekubo’s wife posthumously.

Nasboi described the blogs as exploitative and noted that Ekubo had deliberately kept his marriage out of the public space.

“Alex Ekubo kept his marriage away from the vulture internet. Now that he’s gone, blogs are already digging up and posting his wife. But na some of una still talk say na gay. These blogs are vampires….”, he wrote.
