Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers starred as the Super Eagles claimed bragging rights over arch-rivals Ghana in the Unity Cup invitational tournament on Wednesday, May 28.

The in-form forward inspired Nigeria to a 2-1 victory over their West African counterparts at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium in London.

The Dutch-born Nigerian scored the opening goal of the game in the 14th minute before Nigeria doubled their lead through Razak Simpson's own goal six minutes later.

Ghana's Thomas Asante reduced the deficit for Otto Addo's side with 20 minutes left on the clock, but Eric Chelle's men held on to secure the win after regulation time.

Dessers expressed pride in the opportunity to represent Nigeria after missing out on recent call-ups.

“When you look in the mirror, you see Nigeria,” the 30-year-old told the Super Eagles media team.

“At the moment I got the call, I didn’t have to think about it for long. When you get the call, you want to go—I went.”

The former Cremonese striker was also on target against Ghana when the two countries met in an international friendly in June 2024.
