The conversation about recognizing the rights of the LGBTQI community in Africa has arisen again as the LGBTQI community in Ghana are demanding their rights and freedoms to ‘love themselves’.

MyNigeria’s correspondent in Ghana, speaks to some Nigerians in the country on this pressing matter.

According to two Nigerian brothers, Ike and Prosper, they will not even consider accepting the legalization of gayism in Nigeria as it is a taboo in the country. They also added that it is preposterous for a person to be sexually attracted to a member of the same sex.

“Gay and lesbianism should not go to Nigeria, even mad people are not supposed to have that kind of thing in their thought, talk more of Nigerians. Even if it’s any of my family or relatives, I will disown that one.

He continued: "I’ve not even seen the beautiful ones walking on the streets … the ladies eh I die, is it a man that I will go for? Having feelings for a man, what will you feel? You have everything that he has. What shall it profit a man to get a man?” Prosper queried.

“We shouldn’t accept lesbians in Ghana because it’s not good at all. A real Christian country shouldn’t allow such to happen. Even in my tribe, it’s a taboo. A man married to a fellow man, it’s a big disgrace,” Ike added.

According to Usman, a phone repairer, legalizing same-sex relationships will affect the world’s population, as two people of the same sex are naturally unable to procreate.

“Anybody who wants to legalize lesbianism and homosexuality should, first of all, see it as they want to depopulate the earth. I don’t support it in any way and there is no way I’ll have feelings for a particular gender. It’s a taboo,” he said.

Chiemeka added that gays should not be subjected to any form of violence but they should rather be talked out of practicing the act.

“I’m not in support of it. I don’t want to live in a country where it will be encouraged because the bible condemns it … It’s not good to beat them. All you need to do is call them and advise them. Talk to them so that they will repent from that.”
