What Peter Obi will do if he loses to Tinubu in court - Labour Party spokesman speaks

The spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign council, Tanko Yunusa, has shared some lights on the next step that Peter Obi will take should he lose to president-elect Bola Tinubu in court.

In an interview with Legit.ng, Tanko noted that Nigerians are looking forward to a transparent judgement as the legal suit began at the presidential election tribunal next week.

Recall that the Labour Party and Peter Obi filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress contesting the declaration of the 2023 presidential election.

They are however, demanding the court cancels the exercise that produced Bola Tinubu as winner, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party second and Peter Obi third in the elections held on February 25.

Peter Obi argues that Bola Tinubu failed to get 25% in Abuja and should not have been declared as the winner as a result.

He is also calling for the disqualification of Tinubu and his running mate Kashim Shettima over an alleged drug case involving the United States.

Following the irregularities that occurred during the general election, Yunusa noted that he believed the court is the best option for Peter Obi to reclaim his mandate.

He said; "We have no choice than to resort to the court, but you see, we have ... evidence against whoever has been pronounced winner of the election."

"And this is a test on the integrity of our judiciary. And we plead with them that they should not look at the technicalities, but look at the substance of the matter."

Speaking on the judiciary, Yunusa stated;

"And they should also know that the Nigerian people are demanding an open adjudication of the matter. They want cameras to be focused on the Nigerian judiciary. They want it open so that people can see those who are for the people and against the people just like the way it happens at the National Assembly.

"That is to tell you that the Nigerian people are apprehensive of what may come out of that particular judgment, knowing fully well that the judicial system is now being put on trial."

Tanko Yunusa further revealed what Peter Obi will do if he loses the Bola Tinubu in the tribunal.

He said; "If we lose, we will wait and take a decision after that. But we are not going to preempt any negative outcome right now. We will make our statement after the adjudication of the matter."
