Lere Olayinka, an aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has shared insights on how former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose managed kidnapping cases during his tenure.
Olayinka, who previously worked as Fayose's aide, stated that when Ekiti was attacked by kidnappers, Fayose swung into action without waiting for help from then-President Muhammadu Buhari.
"Rather, he did what he should do as a Governor. He mobilised local hunters. He mobilised security men, including soldiers," Olayinka said.
He also mentioned that Fayose enacted laws banning open grazing in Ekiti, preventing Fulani herders from entering the state at night, and identifying cattle rearers within Ekiti.
"I remember when a pregnant woman was killed in Orin Ekiti Farm Settlement, Fayose summoned the stakeholders, including Fulani leaders, to the government house. Son of one of the Fulani leaders, Alhaji Abache, was accused of being among those who killed the woman," he said.
Olayinka noted that Fayose ordered Alhaji Abache to have his son within a week or leave Ekiti.
"Within three days, Abache brought the son.
"Like I have maintained, we can keep playing politics of emotions and sentiments with this issue of insecurity, especially in the South-West, when we are ready, we will hold our Governors accountable," he said.
