Political Analyst, Dr Constance Ikoku is of the opinion that what the African Union sees as a coup, ordinary Africans are seeing it as revolution and freedom from their oppressors.

She said this during an interview on Arise Television Prime Time on Wednesday, August 30.

Speaking on the recent coup that occurred in Gabon, Dr Ikoku noted that residents of the Franchophone country are excited and thrilled about the removal of the government that has been led by one family for over 50 years.

On Wednesday, August 3o, a coup occurred in the French speaking country where the military announced in a live telecast that they would be taking over the leadership of the country.

The military led by Brice Oligui Nguema, the commander-in-chief of the Gabonese Republican Guard also announced that the election results were cancelled, closure of all borders until further notice and state institution dissolved.

The state institutions dissolved included the government, the senate, the national assembly, the constitutional court and the election body.

Sharing her thoughts on the recent coup happening in several francophone countries, Dr Ikoku noted that; “what the African Union sees as a coup, ordinary Africans are seeing it as revolution and freedom from their oppressors.”

Ikoku in her submission said that the France are aware of the revolution happening across the countries and any possibility of intervention would be difficult.
