Nigerians on social media have criticized First Lady Remi Tinubu for insinuating that Nigeria's youth are not hardworking.

Tinubu made these comments while speaking at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife, Osun State. She encouraged the youth to be hardworking, stating that "there is no food for a lazy man."

During her visit to Ife to inaugurate a hostel and a 2.7-kilometer road donated to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, by the Ooni of Ife and named after her, Mrs. Tinubu said, "There is no food for a lazy man. Even God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. Nigeria is a land flowing with milk and honey, but we need to sustain it for generations to come. God has richly blessed my family even before reaching the presidency, and we are content with what we have."

Tinubu's wife also urged Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu's administration and expressed hope for a better future.

Her comments have been met with criticism from social media users, who have called her out. The backlash has also extended to President Bola Tinubu, who has been accused of leading Nigeria into an economic downturn.
