We won’t accept this; remain in your Lagos – Edo market women protest plan by Tinub’s Iyaloja daughter to impose a leader
The market women in Edo State have taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with a move by President Bola Tinubu’s Iyaloja daughter, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, who heads the market women in Lagos state, has been accused of imposing a leader on the Edo market women.
Unhappy with this decision, the women stated that they would not accept Tinubu’s daughter interfering with the Edo State market women association.
They question whether Tinubu’s daughter would accept market women from other states involving themselves in the affairs of Lagos state’s market women, which she leads.
The leader of the Edo Market Women Association, Blackky Ogiamien, claims that Folashade intends to impose a leader on them, which they will not accept.
She said, “We’ve been part of this association for over 50 years. We have been functioning without any issues. Suddenly, we hear that Tinubu’s daughter wants to inaugurate someone. In Lagos state, nobody interferes there.
So, in Edo state, we will not allow it. For several months now, we have heard that she wants to come and appoint someone else as a leader. We will not agree; she should focus on Lagos state. I would not go to Lagos state and impose someone there. I am the leader of the Edo State Market Women Association.
If she wants to meet me, I will bring some of my women with me. But what she is doing, we won’t tolerate it from her. Politicians come and go, but we remain. Nobody can approach Folashade Tinubu and appoint someone in Lagos state. It is not possible.
The Oba of Benin has authority over us. He owns the market; he’s our grandfather. Any governor who comes is like our father. Oshiomhole was our father, and Lucky Igbinedion was also once our father.”
