Nigerian online comedian and digital creator Mark Angel has disclosed that he earned up to $400,000 monthly during the early years of his content creation career, acknowledging that increasing market saturation has since reduced individual earnings across the industry.

Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the veteran creator recalled the unprecedented financial returns of the digital comedy landscape when he began producing online skits in 2017.

Mark Angel explained that while the influx of new digital creators has divided the total revenue pool, the industry remains highly profitable for dedicated content producers.

"I remember in those days, in a month you could make like $350,000–$400,000. That was in 2017 when I started making skits," Mark Angel revealed. "But now that more people have come on board, the money has reduced. But that does not mean anything. You can still make a lot of money from skit-making."

The content creator's comments highlight the evolving business model of African digital entertainment, where early platform monetization yields have transformed into a highly competitive commercial market.

Mark Angel Comedy, featuring child star Emmanuella, was among the earliest African digital channels to achieve global audience scale on YouTube, becoming the first African comedy channel to hit one million subscribers.
