Residents of Edo state has taken to social media to react to the ban the Edo state government placed on prostitution.

In a video making rounds, a man was seen shedding tears over the ban. He slammed the government for the decision to stop the 'ashawo' trade in the state.

Earlier, the police stormed major joints used by the prostitutes in the city. At the sight of the police officers the 'ashawos" were seen running helter-skelter to avoid getting arrested.

Reacting to this development, a social media user in his rant, raised concerns as to why the state government would interfere in the affairs of prostitutes.

He claimed people engage with prostitutes in order to stop thinking and depression.

A drive into town at night by another resident, showed the streets empty as people feared getting arrested. The voice behind the camera said everywhere is dry as 'ashawos' can't be found anywhere.
