The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abuja responded to the passing of singer Ifunanya Nwagene, popularly known as Nanyah, clarifying that medical staff exerted every effort to save her after she was brought in following a snake bite.
The hospital indicated that Nwagene arrived conscious and was promptly treated by the medical team, but her condition worsened due to complications from the bite.
“Our team did everything possible to stabilise her, but sadly, she did not survive,” the hospital remarked.
They also refuted claims that the absence of anti-venom contributed to her death.
Nwagene succumbed at the FMC on Saturday after experiencing adverse effects from the snake bite in the Federal Capital Territory.
Her death was confirmed by the Amemuso Choir, where she served as a soprano, on Sunday afternoon.
In a brief statement, choir’s Music Director Sam Ezugwu expressed sorrow over her loss, noting she died from snake bite complications.
Renowned in choral and gospel music circles for her powerful voice and commitment, Nwagene was seen as a rising star whose absence is deeply felt.
Since her passing became known, tributes from fans and colleagues have flooded in, many shocked by the sudden event.
As of this report, no additional details about the snake bite incident have been officially released.
