The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye has stated that consultations were made with the Federal Government before the establishment of Operation Amotekun.

The security outfit was launched last week by the 6 governors of Southwest to help battle against crime in the region.

Barely a week after its launch, Amotekun got a knock from the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who declared it illegal.

According to Malami, Amotekun is not backed by any law in Nigeria.

However, the Ooni of Ife stated that stakeholders in Southwest met with the FG before proceeding to establish Amotekun.

He said: "Before the creation of Amotekun, we had a meeting with the federal government to seek their support.

"So, have this in mind that the Amotekun does not take over the duties of the state police, but they are only here to support them."
