FC Porto striker Terem Moffi has declared that the Super Eagles will overcome Zimbabwe when both sides meet in the opening semi-final of the 2026 Unity Cup at The Valley Stadium in Charlton on Tuesday, May 26.
Moffi, one of the senior European-based players in camp with 19 senior international caps, spoke with confidence after an encouraging training session at Cray Valley FC in London, where 14 players had gathered for the camp.
The striker also offered a glowing assessment of the home-based players invited by coach Eric Chelle, describing their early contributions as a sign of what the domestic league has to offer.
“It’s been top sessions from the boys, and we’re proud to be here, happy to represent the country. We are looking forward to other sessions and the games,” Moffi said in a YouTube interview with Austin Okon-Akpan.
“From the boys back home, top sessions from them. We could see the quality from the get-go. This is what we need in the Super Eagles — a mix of this and that. We love that.”
Nigeria and Zimbabwe share a complicated recent history, having drawn both legs of their 2026 World Cup qualifying fixtures, results that contributed significantly to the Super Eagles’ qualifying difficulties. Moffi, however, insisted there are no lingering emotions heading into Tuesday’s contest.
“There’s no pressure at all. We are just happy to be here to play football, enjoy ourselves and win games. It doesn’t make it a difficult game; there are no hard feelings. We are just here to play another game against Zimbabwe, so we try to win. We will win,” the Porto forward said.
With Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams absent from the squad, Moffi is expected to lead Nigeria’s attack. The second semi-final will see India face Jamaica, with the final scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
