Nigeria's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has empathised with Nigerians stranded abroad as he promised to get them home.

Speaking at the briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID19 on Friday, he promised to address the matter as soon as possible.

Onyema said the Government was actually in a dilemma as regards placing the mass numbers of Nigerians willing to return home in quarantine. The puzzling questions were based on where to isolate as they do not have any place to keep them.

He noted that they considered using hotels for the more than 300 evacuees but even hotels do not want to be associated with them because of the matters like reputation

Assuring them that the Government was concerned about this dilemma, he said: "We are doing everything possible to bring people out there back home."

Clarifying a few public perceptions, he said the decision on the evacuees stranded abroad was not his call to make. Rather he shifted the blame to the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19.

"All decisions on COVID-19 are taken by the task force and not by me. Tell them to engage with our embassies and we will convey messages on the decision to the taskforce not the Minister of the foreign affairs," Onyeama stressed.
