The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu has said the rise of deaths in Kano is still being investigated.

Giving a report of what he noticed in Kano during the briefing on the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, he said they were still verifying the massive spike in deaths.

He promised that the general public will see the result of their meeting with Kano health workers in the coming days.

"We have a team working with Kano to verify what is ongoing in Kano. The cases really increased in Kano. It is not a very single thing to manage. We sat them to reorganise how they were working. You will see the results in the next few days. The treatment centre is excellent," Ihekweazu said.

Explaining the rise in the numbers of testing, the NCDC DG said the game was not a game of numbers. He noted that tests have increased and it will reflect in the official rollout of figures.

"We are not playing a numbers game. We have gone up from 5,000 to 10,000 test per day. We are going to continue to keep testing. There would be a change in the numbers. We will increase the number of tests," the NCDC boss said.
