Isaac Fayose, the brother of the former Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose has reacted to the announcement by the United States government that it will provide $27 million to Nigeria as part of a larger $536 million humanitarian aid package to Sub-Saharan Africa.
As a social commentator, Fayose stated that the humanitarian aid is intended for a nation in a pandemic, emphasizing that "we are not refugees."
The official website for the U.S. Mission in Nigeria stated that the funding is part of the U.S. commitment to providing life-saving assistance and protection to vulnerable people and generous host communities throughout the continent.
U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, highlighted the impact of the new U.S. Government funding, stating, “This assistance will have a significant impact on the lives of those most in need in Nigeria and across the continent.”
Ambassador Mills further emphasized, “This $27 million in aid showcases the United States’ unwavering dedication to supporting Nigeria in addressing humanitarian challenges. We stand with Nigeria in its efforts to assist vulnerable populations and enhance resilience against food insecurity and climate change impacts.”
The funding will be directed to those in need through the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, as well as USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.
