We are making Nigeria a gas nation - GACN

Mr Olalekan Ogunleye, Managing Director of Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Limited Mr Olalekan Ogunleye, Managing Director of Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Limited

The Managing Director of Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Limited (GACN), Mr Olalekan Ogunleye has said that the company is striving for Nigeria to become an industrialized gas nation.

Ogunleye said this when GACN management paid a courtesy visit to Mr Buki Ponle, Managing Director (MD) of the Nigeria News Agency (NAN), in Abuja.

The visit aimed to seek NAN’s collaboration in disseminating information on the company’s activities with a view to securing increased use of gas in the country.

Ogunleye, represented by Mr Chijioke Uzoho, Commercial Director, GACN, said the company is also striving to utilize gas consumption nationwide.

“We are in natural gas, compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG), and natural gas is the engine of industrialization; you must have heard of Escravos in Lagos and industrialization in Lagos and Ogun.

“Industries in these states follow the Escravos pipeline because that’s where they source their energy and electricity to meet their industrial needs.

“National industrialization using gas is essential for us, and Nigeria has been described as a gas nation.

“Before 2010, most of the projects were export-oriented, so the initiative of GACN is to be able to catalyze the use of gas in the country, to be able to stimulate industries and things that come from it, including employment,” Ogunleye said.

According to him, the stakeholder summits were designed with the South East at the forefront, to raise awareness in the area of the benefits derived from natural gas.

“The first gas stakeholder forum we organized took place in the South East where we brought together governors, industries, business tycoons in major cities in the South East, as well as the Association Nigeria Manufacturers (MAN).

“We also brought in the gas supplier so that we could find a solution to the energy needs or gas needs of these end-users; it was a successful forum, as the NNPC GMD and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources participated.

“So this year, we’re doing the same thing in the North on July 29 in Kano, and we tagged it the AKK Forum, (Ajaokuta, Kaduna, Kano Pipeline).

“Hopefully the president will be there and the governors of the states surrounding the AKK pipeline – Nasarawa, Kogi, Kano, Kaduna and Abuja will be there.

“Not everyone knows why this pipeline was designed. So, it is an awareness campaign for the region so that they know that this pipeline is coming and that it is coming with a massive amount of gas.

“The pipeline will be able to industrialize this area, but for people to start building industries based on the use of gas, we have to let them know that it is available and that the gas is coming,” he added.

Ogunleye noted that Nigeria had not been able to use its gas resources as it should have been, but that the stability of products such as fertilizers made from gas was a sign of a gas future. beneficial in the country.

“To achieve our goal, we have upstream stakeholders and we try to bring gas to market for buyers, so we’re like a one-stop-shop in that if an entity needs gas, whatever she has to do is come to us and operate the process."
