We are hungry; enough is enough – Videos, photos as #FearlessInOctober protests begin in Abuja

Thousands of Nigerians in Abuja have begun the #FearlessInOctober protest in the Federal Capital Territory. The protesters are drawing attention to the hardships and poverty faced by Nigerians.

In the videos that have emerged, protesters can be heard chanting "we are hungry" as they march.

Some of the banners displayed read: “Bad Governance has ended the dreams of Nigerian youths, end it now” and “Enough is Enough – Revolution Now.”

“We are buying fuel for N1000 and you expect us not to come out and protest. What are we saying – we are hungry,” one protester said.

Former presidential candidate and Human Rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, had invited Nigerians across the country to join him in the October 1st protest against hardships, privations, hunger, unemployment, insecurity, and poverty unleashed by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Sowore, who made the call in a post on Monday evening, vowed that he could not stay silent or indifferent in the face of the sufferings and privations that the Nigerian people are going through. He noted that he would be on the streets of Nigeria to join other Nigerians in protesting the hardships.

He stated that protests or revolts are the only tools that people have to voice their opposition to the anti-people policies of their government, adding that it is a right enshrined in everyone's genes.

Reminding Nigerians that he has spent five of the last 6 years either in prison, detention, or confinement by the All Progressives Congress-led government under trumped-up treason charges that were later withdrawn, Sowore vowed that he will not relent until "our demands are met point by point".
