According to reports, Watford agreed a loan move for Troost-Ekong to Salernitana till the end of the current campaign with a buy-back clause if they remain in the topflight as he will also reunite with former Udinese manager, Davide Nicola.

“The moment has come for me to move on from Watford FC after 3 special seasons shared with everyone involved. From everyone at the restaurant, security workers, volunteers at the stadium to the medical & office staff and all the rest you have made my time what it was,” Ekong’s post reads in part.

A fan of the club, @VVitchfynder, recounted under the post how Ekong helped his son build confidence.

“All the best for your future. You were the first player my son met at the open day. He was so nervous and didn’t want to approach anyone. You were so kind and welcoming it gave him the courage to meet and speak to other players. A real credit to the club.”
